Reunion 2020

Time to Get Serious, Folks!!! Updated 16 Feb 2020.

We're coming up to the final planning stage for the 2020 reunion in Tampa. Registration will close at the end of this week (21 Feb) - one month from show time. If you are planning on attending or have been on the fence, this is your last week to get a check in the mail!

Beginning Friday, updates with a lot more detail will be sent only to those who have registered. Following the reunion Dave Scott will post a "hotwash" for everybody, with some photos, notes from our business meeting, and a first blush look at plans for the 2022 Reunion at the Air Force Museum in Dayton.

Time to register and get things finalized! Here's the REGISTRATION FORM. Costs are comparable to our last event. All events are deconflicted except golf. If you are playing at MacDill or watching the Valspar Tournament on Saturday you'll be tied up until dinner later that night. Please print a copy of the registration form, fill it out, write a check, and mail to Dave Scott by 21 February.

The access code must be entered in ALL CAPS. When Van did an ops check, the receipt ended up in his junk folder so make sure to check that after you order.

You can order at any time up to 26 Feb to get your order delivered in time for the reunion. All merchandise will be sent to Weasel Headquarters in Tampa.

Lodging Update

There are a few more rooms available in our block at the Hampton. Be sure to call the hotel directly if you want to make a reservation. Their number is 813-247-6700. Plenty of rooms left at the Clarion. Dave will be turning back all extra rooms in our blocks this Friday.

Rooms downtown are nudging up to $300/night now on the open market (NCAA Championship games are on Thursday and Saturday) so if you need a room grab one from our block ASAP!!!

Those who indicated they'd like to stay at the Hampton need to confirm the reservation personally. If you haven't called yet please do so right away. Their phone number is (813) 247-6700. If anyone is late to make a decision and would like to book a room there, go ahead and call the hotel and see if they can work it out for you at our discounted price. IMPORTANT: Consider making a Donation for 774th Memorial and Scholarship Funds 

The Don Potter Scholarship program is still active, and we have $1600 to award to a deserving young man or woman. Our tradition is to determine scholarship winners at our annual business meeting. Please consider donating to this fund, and help a deserving individual further their education. You can specify your donation on the Registration form.

Concept development for a special 774 TAS Memorial at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (NMUSAF), Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, continues under the direction of Dick Stevens and Mark Zamzow. We currently have over $2,500 collected towards the anticipated goal of $10K. More details will be presented during this year’s reunion, but please consider donating NOW!!!  You can specify your donation on the Registration form.

A New Option for Saturday - PGA Golf Tournament We've been invited to attend the Valspar PGA Tournament in Tampa. Those who enjoy golf but don't want to play can be a guest at the Inverness course to watch the pros have at it. The invitation includes access to several VIP tents. Even if you aren't a serious golf nut this is a great event to experience. Those who want more info on the tournament should visit their website:

Static Display

We will have an active duty Herc crew join us for some of our events. Many will join us for the Friday night social, and a few will attend Saturday night's dinner where the Commander, an Instructor Pilot, and an Instructor Loadmaster will give us a glimpse of what today's tac airlifters are up to.

The crew will be conducting airdrops at MacDill Thursday (19 March), and have extended an invitation to our group to come out and tour the J-model. The aircraft will be available from 4-6 pm. Its about 30 minutes travel time to the Bad Monkey so you can touch the iron and be back for Happy Hour.
If you would like to take advantage of this offer please let Dave know so that he can coordinate access to the base and flight line. When you RSVP please let him know if you have a valid government ID card.

Itinerary and Notes 

• Date: Thursday, 19 March through Sunday, 22 March 2020 

• Place: Tampa, Florida 

• Weather: lows in the 60s, highs in the 70s 


• Agenda: o Thursday: arrival day with cocktails/dinner on your own ... the check-in desk will be at the Bad Monkey (1717 E 7th Ave) beginning at 3 pm.


o Friday: Yankees vs. Marlins spring training game (optional) starts at 1 pm, so expect to head to the ballpark at noon ... after the game there will be time to clean up and relax before the 6-9 pm social at the Bad Monkey (food and open bar)


o Saturday: For the day, your choice of Golf at MacDill , Valspar PGA Tournament, or a wander through Tampa that will include a combination of Cigar History, WWII Victory Ship, Ferry Excursion to St Petersburg, museums, theme parks, or other local attractions. Everyone comes together for a sit down dinner and some remarks at Zydeco brewhouse at 6 pm.


o Sunday: memorial service and business meeting in the morning at 9 am, followed by "at leisure" or departure (note that there is a magnificent brunch at Gaspar's Grotto for those staying an extra day and in the mood to feast)

o Street party - St Patrick Day parade through Ybor is on Saturday, March 14th 

o Get on a boat - take a cruise with Norwegian or Carnival lines who sail from Port Tampa Bay 

o Visit Orlando - Sea World, Universal, Epcot, Disney World etc. are an hour and a half drive from Tampa on I-4 

o Fishing Charter - great Gulf or Bay fishing with local guides 

o Gulf Beaches - Clearwater, Holmes Beach in Bradenton, Ft Desoto park or Captiva Island/Sarasota are all within an hour's drive

Busch Gardens Tampa - combination theme park and zoo (with beer) ten minutes from downtown 

o March Madness - NCAA championship first and second rounds at Amalie Arena 19 and 21 March 

o Aquarium/History Museum - fun venues right next to the Sparkman Wharf waterfront on the riverwalk

Parking: Many parking options around Ybor for those who drive - Dave's recommendation would be be in the "16th Street Garage" in Ybor ... 

• Accessibility: All venues have elevators and/or ramps for wheelchair/walker access. 

• Dietary Restrictions: The social and Zydeco events will be set up as a buffet - please let Dave know if there are any special dietary requests you'd like to have us include

• Travel: Tampa Int'l airport is 15 minutes from downtown and very convenient. Orlando has two major airports and at times discount airfares due to the attractions. Uber is best to get around downtown Tampa and to/from the airport. The streetcar runs from the Hampton Inn through downtown and is free.
